Juan Cruz, 27, of Deer Park, is charged with second-degree manslaughter and driving while intoxicated after a one-vehicle crash early Monday on the Long Island Expressway that fatally injured his passenger. Police reported that Cruz, who was driving a minivan, ended up going west in the eastbound HOV lane, crashing into a median and tearing off the right side of the vehicle. The impact fatally injured Mauricio Visoso-Ornelas, 28, of Corona. The two men were heading to Corona after a christening party, police said. (Sept. 6, 2010)
